  • I’ve never bought into the oft touted saying that Nigerians are not leisure readers…we are. Even if we don’t win awards, I believe Nigerian writing has a creative edge and we just need to hone our skills, tighten our plots persevere and eventually our excellence will shine through. Thank God for a stage like Naija [...]

Will have to ditto @Ijeoma all the way. It was the relationships between characters that made the novel what it is today. Also, how much the war affected all the characters especially the twin’s husband, can’t remember his name again. From this confident young man before the war to Shaggy after the war (Shaggy in Scooby [...]

I think that what made Chimamanda’s book so good was that she didn’t focus on the war itself and on who did what. She talked about the people and how their characters evolved as a response to their situation. That being said I think that people from our generation have a pretty good chance of writing [...]

@kaycee, my brother, you have a very solid point on the issue of our forebears having a way of telling tales… I think it unfortunate. It is strange that in many places I hear of people who tell their children the tale of Biafra and strike so much bitterness. In other cases, like mine, there is [...]

@su’eddie,guy,I think d Biafran war is already in the history books. Rehashing the details is not necessary, and I tell you, they are gory tales. Certain facts are not to be overflogged, historical or not.The thing is this, every time I hear the Biafran story from my Grandma or Uncles,I feel like shooting the closest northerner, and I don’t know [...]

I believe that anyone with ink flowing in his/her pen should just write. use whatever English, just write! There are many creative minds that can not try writing because they feel that their English will not fit. I’ll love to read books written with pidgin or even street languages.

Gals and guys, I have this to add. This just came in: a NATIONAL LIFE newspaper publication dated Sunday, April 3, 2011 (I read one, two or at most three, national dailies every Sunday and this paper is the one I have been reading quite frequently). Their website - http://www.thenationallifeonline.com. On page 18, the second [...]

I realy do not like any War stories.Biafran war was terrible. Is there any need to relive it? But if we must, perhaps for history’s sake, couldn’t we make it lighter by giving it a comic slant? If I write on Biafra,it would have to be hilarious.
