Copyright Policy

Copyright Policy

Being writers and authors ourselves, the owners and administrators of Naijastories.com (the “Site”) take copyright law very seriously. When you upload a post to the Site as the author, the item is automatically protected under copyright law. According to our Terms of Use however, please ensure that all the work you post to Naijastories.com is your own or you have permission from the copyright owner to use it. When it is proved that you passed someone’s work as yours, your account will be terminated.

What is Copyright?

In this instance, your work is automatically protected by copyright the moment you click ‘SAVE’ or ‘SUBMIT TO REVIEW’ or your work is published by the editors of the site to public access. Copyright is the law protecting intellectual property which includes online writing, books, pictures and artwork. Please be aware that copyright covers only the details of a particular work, not the general ideas, concepts, systems, or methods of doing something. You may express your ideas in writing or drawings and claim copyright in your description, but be aware that copyright will not protect the idea itself as revealed in your written or artistic work. Please consult a copyright lawyer for more details.

Reporting Copyright Infringement

If you believe that your work has been plagiarized or copied by a member of the site, please send an email to [email protected].
Please use a valid email address and include in your email; your full name, and if possible some proof of your claim. If you do not provide this information, and if we are unable to contact you on follow-up, the notice will be nullified.

Our Legal Liability

Once your email is received and the proof verified, we will temporarily remove the implicated infringed work from public access, and contact the site author involved. This eliminates all legal liability to the administrators of our Site.

Implicated Author’s Rights

If the implicated author believes they have been mistakenly implicated, they may also send us a counter notice email with proof to support this assertion. If they do not provide this information, or our attempts to contact them fail, then the work will be permanently deleted from the Site.

Follow-Up Procedure

A copy of the verified counter notice from an implicated author will be submitted to the sender of the original copyright infringement notice. Also, the disputed posts will be returned to public access within 15 business days unless take legal action commences.

Once we receive notice of such action, the material will be removed pending the result of the lawsuit.

Please note that our copyright policy is subject to change at any time with or without notice. This document should be read together with the Naijastories.com Terms of Use.

If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected].

Who owns the right to any work saved, submitted for review or published here on NS?

Can literary work posted to NS be posted again to a personal blog,or published in a book by the author?
