Hillfox – an open space with dilapidated, abandoned, completed houses and a big, mighty warehouse, and areas for labour.  That was where I and my brother were taken to, after a squadron of green men captured us and broke our grand home and separated us from our grandparents. Hillfox was dead at first sight.  Every [...]

I hope I can share a little bit of poetry here, especially off-the-cuff ones. Well, em, I got one here. It swirled in my mind for a while when I found myself ’really’ listening to C. C. Winans for the first time. Tears welled up my eyes unexpectedly, and I wondered why. I just grabbed a pen and paper. I knew it was too short to be published publicly, so I decided to share here:

    WITH TEARS

    I write with my tears
    I fight with my tears
    I bite with my tears

    Water blinding my sight
    Unable to see that kite
    O what a thick night!

    I urge you –
    Break me!
    Shake me!
    Forsake me…
    Then wake me.

Anything to waylay all my fears
To make me equal or better than my peers
And overcome the heat in my tears

    I try, try, try
    Don’t pry, pry, pry
    Don’t lie, lie, lie
    Or I’ll cry, cry, cry

    You spy…

@Julemyles, you see those ‘persons’, hm? They will soon get their comeuppance, yea. Bottomline in this discussion is, criticism is very unavoidable from anyone, the unprofessionals and professionals alike, mild ones and harsh ones. Just keep a straight face, dear writers-in-the-making and writers-already-there, ‘ode-eshi’ am well-well when una meet ‘am’ or ‘dem’, no be so? Chimamanda [...]

My dear Nkem, have you read the preceding parts before this one, hm? Maybe from there, you could understand the genesis of Marcus’ absurd nature. Well, you know as they say, the end justifies the means, right? :D Thanks for passing by. ;)

@Jefsaraurmax , the word HORRIBLE, TERRIBLE may not be very constructive, as you say. But if these words are just uttered alone, left alone, it or they become insultive, yes. The loneliness of these words brings out their bad nature in morphology, yeah. I understand how you feel about it. If a commentator can explain the [...]

Em, ah, when I dared to utter the word HORRIBLE when commenting on some NS-girl’s ‘prose-poem’, four NS-persons, I think, ‘descended’ upon me with ‘stones’ and ‘whips’, hm. :) Damn, I had fun then, truly! I was forced to apologise and then give my reasons for blurting that word. Even another NS-person came to my [...]

At the time I penned down this poem, Liberia had wahala with leadership. This is an old but relevant verse construct, don’t you think, hm?

@Easylife2, yeah, it wasn’t easy but when you get by it, it flows like water easily, ya? And, eh, some of the books I mentioned adjacent the writers I haven’t yet read, o! I just took their titles, that’s all. Thanks for stopping by, my friend. ;)

ACT III (MARCUS’ home, a brick house.  There is a sharp contrast between the previous setting and this one.  The sitting room of this house has a wooden settee with table, and a mat spread on the floor near the settee which serves as dining.  The mother of MARCUS, MAMA, is seen sitting on the mat, eating, while JUDITH is [...]
