#ChallengeMe Contest For New Writers – Extended To April 30

NaijaStories is pleased to present an online writing contest in recognition of new writers. This contest aims to create awareness to upcoming writers who have joined NaijaStories of a new level of professionalism that the site requires. Writers through this contest are given opportunities to put fort their best work and effort. This contest should be taken as if it is your very first work that is being published on NaijaStories. How would you individually want to present your first work?

THE CONTEST
Writers will be given three prompts to choose to write on. They must pick from the prompts given and write however they want based on the prompt they chose.
Here are the prompts:
Your character’s boss invites her and her husband to dinner. Your character wants to make a good impression, but her husband has a tendency to drink too much and say exactly what’s on his mind.
Write a story that is set in a specific period in time. For example, the 1900’s. This can be based in any part of the world.
Are you a writer who loves to drain your readers with continuous twists and turns? Write a piece with the biggest and jaw dropping twist ever!
GENERAL Guidelines:
This competition is only opened to NaijaStories writers who are ranked ‘Newbies and beginners.’
Your submission must be based on one of the prompts that was given above.
Only one submission per person. Each submission must be written in prose. It should neither be an article, poem or a dramatic piece.
Entries must not be more than 500 words.
Your submission will be judged based on the individual cover picture you chose for your work, punctuations, and structure and overall a well structured piece.
To Submit Your Entry
You must be a member of Naijastoires.com. If you’re not a member already, register now.
Post your entry and add the tag of ChallengeMe Contest.
Above your actual story, you must tell the prompt that you are working on in this format: prompt #1, prompt #2 or prompt #3.
Contest Dates:
The contest opens on Thursday, 5th of March 2015 and the deadline for submission is Tuesday, 30th of April 2015.
Long list of entries that meet the criteria will be released on the 15th of May 2015.
Judging will take place on the 17th to 25th May 2015
The shortlist will be announced on the 28th of May 2015.
Winners will be announced on May 31st 2015.
Prize:
The prize will be based on NaijaStories point. This will be a onetime thing as NaijaStories point no longer offers a money value.
The winner gets 50,000 NS points which is equivalent to 10,000 Naira in cash.
1st runner up gets 25,000 NS points which is equivalent to 5,000 Naira in cash.
2nd runner up gets 25,000 NS points which is equivalent to 5,000 Naira in cash.
Remember, this is only for this competition. NS points no longer offers a money value.

  4. @Emjo, Dramatic Piece implies that your submission must not be written in form of drama, you are expected to write only in Prose.

  6. Hi. I’m also a newbie here. I have a few questions; firstly, the post says that a cover picture is required,do u mean we should make a picture depicting the story? secondly, are we supposed to name the story? thirdly, what exactly do u mean by NS points? Thanks in anticipation.

      1.Of course, you have to submit a cover. Like everyother ones here. Okay, not like every other one here, Yours should be waaaay better.
      PS: Hopefully, you know what a cover is.
      2. What makes it a story if there’s no title. Just be sure to add the ChallengeMe tag.

    2. Hi @ivytee5 A cover picture simple means get a nice picture off from Google or ones that have already been posted on NS that depicts your story.

      You name the story whatever you want that fits. and you will get to know more about NS points once you become more familiar with the site.
