A Bitter Five Alive

A Bitter Five Alive

Just come out on the taste of this

Let the humming train

Let the murmuring day

And then
in sweet great patience,
realise a noise-maker is your heartbeat…

Look at you
claiming you’re not a thief;
who owns the lamb under your armpit?

Look at you
claiming you’re not a witch;
who owns the blood soaking the
of your tongue?

Tell me, please,
People Discombobulating People (PDP)!
Why can’t you let
tuwo, akpu, and amala
live in their poverty peace?

For the sake of God.
For the sake of karma.
For the sake of the unknown tomorrows.

I’m muttering my daydreaming,
so ask me not of connotation
I’m not axing any tree in particular

But if you’ve ever chewed
under the canopy
where myths and legends override
those of Ogboni’s page in the Yoruba diary;
then you’ll clench and clinch your fists and agree
poetry’s my third priority.
