“With the earth of structure and the air of rhyme, the water of rhythm and the fire of passion, Kukogho Iruesiri Samson weaves his own brand of poetry, keeping faith with the old traditions, yet inventing new ones.”
~ Dike-Ogu Dike Chukwumerije
You are hereby invited to the public unveiling/launching of my collection of social poems ‘What Can Words Do?’
Date: 27th of September 2013
Time: 11:00am to 2pm
Venue: Savannah Suites, Hotels and Resorts, 8 Faskari Street, Area 3, Garki, Abuja.
Former Minister of the Federal Republic, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode will Chair the occasion while Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zainab Maina, will be the Distinguished Guest of Honour.
‘What Can Words Do?’ highlights modern societal ills, using poetry as a tool to speak to people, with the ultimate aim of inspiring social change in a world desperately in need of it.
The poems address issues of leadership, politics, marriage, women abuse, destruction of the earth, war, religion and love.
This is my first book but my poems have been published in several Nigerian and international anthologies in the past.
In 2012, I won the Orange Crush Poetry prize in the 52 Years After National Poetry competition celebrating Nigeria’s 52nd Independence Anniversary.
I am also founder of Nigeria’s most popular social poetry movement, Words Rhymes And Rhythm (www.facebook.com/WRRPoetry), a social media based poetry reorientation forum that is helping over 4000 young poets hone their writing skills, focusing on social change poetry.
I would be greatly honoured to have your support.
What can our inked words do?
Come together, plot a coup
Retrieve the stolen crown
Plant a smile o’er frown
Make lying tongue
Sing Truth’s song
