My name is Edidem
I work at the airport.
I am not a pilot,
I only clean toilets.
Yesterday my colleague joined the poets.
He said, “Edidem
Dreams are made of diamond
Dreams are made of gold
Dreams are made of silver
Dreams are made of bronze
Dream of making history
Dream of impossibility
Don’t sleep
Work and watch dreams come true”.
I told him his poem was wonderful.
So he could help my stomach full.
I do believe in dreams.
They are the first signs of malaria.
How can one compare gold and dreams?
That is a sign of acute malaria.
If he had said,”dreams and education
can change the fortune of a nation,”
that would have made more sense
than his poetic nonsense.
We have worked like cattle together.
Our dreams have rubbed off each other.
How can he say “work and watch dreams come true,”
when in his eyes I see he wants to be a pilot too.

  1. Nice poem … would I be right to say I saw layers of rhetorical contradictions?
