Rising And Falling

Rising And Falling

Rising and Falling

Falling, a dwindling twinkle star
Fading into the nothingness
From which I came
Lost in the void emptiness
Of an expansive milky way
At least I shone tonight
Dropping, a little firefly
To lose my light and die
At least I flew tonight

Rising, like the dough
From the fermented yeast.
Rising, from the gloomy clouds
That held me sway
Rising, after the dawn’s herald
To a bright new day
Rising, grandly in the east
To shine on both man and beast

Hmmm, a tragic song of one in the throes…

    Nicely done.

    1. Thank you, it’s not entirely tragedy, because I rose to shine in the last verse.

  2. Nice. I like the opposites in the poem.
Check: ‘Lost in the void emptiness.’
Void and emptiness are synonyms, so you ought to lose one.
And the title shoulda been Falling and Rising based on the arrangement of the verses, plus you need to fall before rising, normally.
    Well done, Clem. $ß.

    1. Thank you for your insights. This is why I need a community like naijastories to grow. I’m made corrections on mine, can’t edit posts. Guess I have to be more thorough next time. Hopefully, you’ll read the edited one with the extra lines I’ve added, when my collection finally gets published. Thank you again for making me better.

At least I read this poem …:) Nice

    1. At last? Have you been trying to read it before @Josephoguche?

      1. Oh, forgive me, didn’t read it well. Hope you had a good read

  4. I second Sibbylwhyte. Good job

    1. @Hymar I agree with her too, and I’ve been corrected. i appreciate your comment.

  5. I like this esp the first part…”at least I shone tonight” if only its a simple smile we can give, it can cheer up a gloomy soul…

  6. @topazo you’re right. I was trying to imply that if we’re down, at least, we stood. A poem means different things to different readers, that’s the beauty of poetry.

    @clemency .. I said at least, not at last .. :) …
