A paradelle for the Nigerian Governors’ Forum

A paradelle for the Nigerian Governors’ Forum

Thirty-five defenders of our democracy went to polls.
Thirty-five defenders of our democracy went to polls.
But could not elect one to lead their kind.
But could not elect one to lead their kind.
Their kind went but could not elect one of
Thirty-five defenders. To lead to our democracy polls.

One faction blames unserialized ballot paper.
One faction blames unserialized ballot paper.
The other says consensus candidacy is sin
The other says consensus candidacy is sin
Unserialized ballot paper blames one consensus
Candidacy.Faction says is the other sin.

So millions of Nigerians sit and stare.
So millions of Nigerians sit and stare.
Wondering if the 2015 general elections will be free and fair?
Wondering if the 2015 general elections will be free and fair?
And the 2015 general elections will be so fair,
If wondering millions of free Nigerians sit and stare?

Their kind went but could not elect unserialized
Ballot paper. And the 2015 general elections
Will be so fair, If one of thirty-five defenders
Blames one consensus candidacy? To lead millions of
Wondering  Nigerians. To our free democracy polls,
Says sit and stare faction, is the other sin.

Author’s Note

A Paradelle is a poem of four six-line stanzas in which the first and second lines, as well as the third and fourth lines of the first three stanzas, must be identical. The fifth and sixth lines, which traditionally resolve these stanzas, must use all the words from the preceding lines and only those words. Similarly, the final stanza must use every word from all the preceding stanzas and only these words.

Have fun in using this poetic form. Cheers.
