Pregnant

Pregnant

“I’m pregnant,” she blurted out.

She now had my attention.

“I’m pregnant, J…”

“I heard you,” I said, a slight tinge of irritation getting the better of my voice.
A thousand things to say came to my mind, but what I said was what nearly all men say, “What are you going to do?”

“What are you going to do?”
“It’s me who asked you.”
“And I’m asking you. It’s yours too.”
“Are you sure…”
“What? You think I’ve been screwing behind your back?”
“No, I did not mean that.”
“Then what? You’re the only one I’ve been with. I was a virgin.”
“Yeah, that I noticed. For God’s sake, how the hell did you get pregnant? We were using protection always.”
“Perhaps the condom burst and leaked or something.”
“Well, that poses a problem.”
There was long silence then she said, “We could marry. I’ll be eighteen next month.”
Definitely, that’s what I meant when I said that it posed a problem.
A fast forwarded movie of my dreams being ruined played in my mind – education, job, prosperity and a beautiful young wife (obviously not her) coming into my life a dozen or so years later – everything moving beyond reach forever.
Jeez, how the hell did she get herself pregnant?

        lol…okay.

Very realistic and a typical scenario of a typical uncommitting guy’s reaction to news about pregnancy. I found the following lines funny:

“We could marry. I’ll be eighteen next month.” – lol…like its a very cool solution

“A fast forwarded movie of my dreams being ruined played in my mind – education, job, prosperity and a beautiful young wife (obviously not her) coming into my life a dozen or so years later – everything moving beyond reach forever.” – A forecast of what he would eventually lose as a result of the pregnancy which led him to come to a stupid conclusion –>

Jeez, how the hell did she get herself pregnant?

        – the stupidest thing a guy can ever think of and surprisingly there are many who talk like this even after all proofs that she’s the only one he was with.

        This flash story is a thought provoker that paints a scenario of what the consequences could look like for those who indulge in sex carelessly. Reminds me of the old movie ‘Consequences;

I like the way you crafted the dialogue – very believable and reflective.

        There! I said something…lol

Good stuff, @elovepoetry. I liked the last few lines about vanishing dreams.

It’s amusing how the MC lays all the blame on her.

“How did she get herself pregnant?”
Trying to distant yourself as far as possible from the pregnancy…good move. I’ll like to know how the ‘mystery’ will be solved. Good story.

Too bad @newreign you won’t know what happened, the flash story would become a short story which is not intended.

@Fadehan… you are right, as though she climbed herself…. men should avoid saying that yet it’s their tomfoolery
