Album Of The Past: Track 1

Album Of The Past: Track 1

I cleaned out my shelf today

And chanced upon you

A dusty memory, faded, and moth-eaten,

Ah, the foolishness of those days

The drunkenness and the foolishness of those days

When we laughed the laughter of palm wine

And thought the world was ours to take

When you swore that only death

Would take my name from your lips

And I too, that only her would take yours from mine

Days when we swore to make the world remember us

For our brew of two hearts and a million promises

But there you were on my shelf

A dusty memory, faded, and moth-eaten

  2. Very sweet indeed, i don’t usually read poems but i really liked this one…
Might not be able to give a robust critique but all i can say is thank you for making me appreciate poetry…

    1. @ Smartfinger, My brother, I no know too o! Na im make am dey pain like that.
@ Toluwase & Kaycee: thanks for the compliment
@Adaobi : ,the meaning of that very line obtains from the preceding one. It is simply the contracted form of ” And I too swore that only death would take your name from my lips”. The ‘yours’ there refers to the name of the one who had become a faded memory.

  3. i agree…exquisite!.

And I too, that only her would take yours(who’s the ‘yours’ here?) from mine

  4. It’s beautiful.

Which is why I hate it so much.

    1. Seun, if that’s your way of appreciating something beautiful, I hope you’ll not just hate my poems; please detest them!
