The Shameful Knot

The Shameful Knot

He pulled the strands of his white beard, one after the other. His eyes, blood-red. He lips moved but no sound came forth to break the deafening silence that saturated the vicinity. Many thoughts ran through his mind. “Tufiakwa! My name will not be humiliated. Never! Not even in my grave.” He spat to the ground in anger and watched it dry.
Nkechi’s eyes were fixed to the ground and her knees glued to the sharp sand from which her mother usually take to fry tasty groundnuts. Nkechi’s father had refused for the first time after thirty years of marriage to taste this same groundnut that lured him to marry mama Nkechi. “Can you please repeat what you said again?” He said calmly and slowly, then he let out an angry laughter which intensified after reasonable time lapses. “Papa, I’m …” she was cut short with an unexpected slap that landed on her fair cheek. “Don’t Papa me” he thundered. ” Don’t perforate my ear drum with those piercing words of yours, for they deafen my weak ears. Reserve your Crocodile tears for Mazi Okafor to drink to stupor. You mean that same Mazi Okafor who yesterday emptied my remaining palm wine under my very own roof impregnated you? The Mazi Okafor I know? The one with tobacco coated teeth? He jumped on his feet not waiting for an answer, rested his hands on his feeble waist, stared into the fleeing Sun, shook his head in pity and smirked.

Wow. I could watch the scene unfolding in my mind. I like the vivid way you describe the father’s disappointment and hurt.
