LOVERS OR FRIENDS 3
Nothing is ever as it seems. Juwon is a classic example.
Kunle paced up and down the room, “I’m not sure how much longer I can keep this secret”. He nearly screamed. He punched the wall and let out a loud “Arggh!”
“Relax Kunle; he’s never going to find out if you just keep your mouth shut like you’ve always done!” Juwon yelled back at him.
She always spoke with intimidating certainty in her voice, always absent fear no matter how severe the matter was. It was her most distinguishing quality. Growing up with an Army General for a father surely was largely responsible.
“You need to have seen the way he stared at me today, Damn!” He walked towards her and pulled her close. “Juwon, please, let’s tell him the truth and move on with our lives.”
She looked him straight in his eyes and said, “No, this is the way it has to be. Dave will never know about our little secret. He will propose to me, I will say yes, and our little secret will remain what it is.”
“And what if I no longer want this?” Kunle didn’t take his eyes off the ground. He couldn’t. Juwon was silent for a while, staring at him in utter disbelief and with a certain kind of disgust.
“Kunle, you know better than to think you can just walk away from all of this. We are in this together and nothing can change that!” She screamed.
He looked hard at her and at that moment, 20 years seemed to pass before him. He thought of everything and the conclusion that she was right didn’t impress him at all. He punched the wall again and made for the door.
“Kunle,” she called out to him, “We’re in this together. We’ll be fine.” He walked out and slammed the door behind him.
Juwon dropped to the floor beside her fridge, her head bowed in-between her legs. She opened the fridge and took out a drink, something strong and right for the moment. Just then she noticed the blinking red light from her phone. She picked it up; she had missed three calls from the same contact. She called back.
“Hey baby, sorry I missed your call.”
“Is everything alright sweetie?”
“Yeah, just sorting out a few things with Kunle, that’s all.”
“Is he still at your place?”
“No, he left here about five minutes ago.”
“Okay. Are you sure everything is fine, you sound like you need some good company, the kind only I can provide.”
“Hmmm…someone sure knows how to read my mind, even from miles away.” Juwon was smiling now.
“I’m on my way over; I’ll be there in fifteen minutes.”
“Thanks darling… come straight upstairs, I’ll be waiting for you.”
“O! I’m shivering here right now honey, can’t wait.”
“I love you babe.”
“I love you more.”
Thirty minutes later, Juwon is lying naked on her bed. Nike walks into the bedroom and wakes her up with a soft kiss at the back of her neck. Juwon turns around to find Nike on her bed.
“You said fifteen minutes babe.”
“I’m sorry sweetie, there was a bit of traffic on my way here.”
“It’s okay…I’ve missed you.”
“Me too baby, so much.”
They kissed each other passionately. Juwon undressed Nike, caressing her body tenderly till every piece of clothing was off and on the floor. Then the invisible ocean held the room and the bed, and they were suspended like aquatic plants; fronds in the liquid breeze. Swimming in that ocean, they drank of each other till they could swim no more. A blissful release from the waves of the ocean.
