Ego

Ego

She gave him the things he never experienced

The rare things money could not buy

She loved him with all of her heart

He felt the same way for her

Yet, he made choices outside of her

Just because,

His ego was too big

He never told her the sweet thoughts he had for her

So, he slowly withered in silence

His heart was bruised in the past

That was not the reason for his silence…

His ego was too big

Women pest on him like bees on honey

His heart knew it was not love in their hearts

They liked him but not for the beauty of his heart

The attention, he loved

Still, he failed to see…

He failed to see the one heart that synchronized with his heart

Because, his ego was too big

In a twinkle of an eye

He woke up from sleep

And realized that all that he ever needed was just next door

His path to his one true love, he derailed

Because, his ego was too big.

  1. I loved this. Its truth is eternal. Check tenses though,eg. ”women pest(ed) on him…”
    very nice overall.

  2. Nice one. The beginning kinda reminded me of Edward of A heart to mend.
    Nice work!

  3. @Nkem, nice writing. And it’s a pity that this happens quite a bit.

@Remi, that is true.At least edward did not allow his ego rob him of love in the end.

  4. hmmm this is a nice poem with a very true message. i liked it and enjoyed it. you have a few issues though:

Women pest[THIS SHOULD BE PERCHED (OR PESTED?)] on him like bees on honey

His heart knew it was not love in their hearts

They liked him[A COMMA] but not for the beauty of his heart

His path to his one true love, he derailed
[1. YOU CANNOT DERAIL A PATH. RATHER, YOU DERAIL FROM A PATH SO I THINK FROM SHOULD START THE LINE 2. I THINK SINCE THE GUY IS NOW SANE, THE ISSUES ARE ALL PAST SO THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A ‘HAD’ TO SHOW THE PAST PARTICIPLE]

    just thinking though
