As you know, it’s our aim here on Naija Stories to provide a rich, enjoyable experience where you can communicate easily and effectively with others who share your passion for reading and writing.
To this end, we’ve been doing some work over the weekend, and we’ve made the following changes:
1. Site Activities are now more prominent. If you look on the left navigation bar on the home page, you will see that there is a new ‘Site Activity’ section. This now lets you easily see what is going on in other areas of the site, such as the group/forum and album areas.
We especially want to promote the forums, as we realise that you also want to talk about other stuff other than just commenting on stories, plays and poems. So by default, when you go to the Naija Stories home page, you will see the latest activity on the group/forum areas.
Things to note:
– To switch to seeing a particular type of activity, click the link to that activity. For example, to see all the album activity, click on the ‘Album‘ link. When you click on the link, the Album link will turn to ordinary text, indicating that you are currently viewing the Album section. You can click on another link to see another type activity, click on the appropriate link or simply click ‘All Activities’ to see every type of activity.
– 2o activities are displayed over 4 pages, with 5 activities shown per page. To see the rest of the activities, click on the link to the particular page (1, 2, 3 or 4)
2. Chatting is now enabled on the site. If you look on the bar at the top of the page, you should see a Chat menu. If you click on this, it will take you to your chat page. (You can also access this page by going to your profile page (the one you go to when you click on the link with your name) and then clicking on the Chat link on the page.
Things to note:
From your chat page, you can see all the people who are in the public chat channel.
If you wish, you can switch to other chat channels by selecting the channel you want from the ‘Channel’ drop down at the top – there is a channel for each group.
If you want more privacy, you can create your own private channel by clicking the ‘Enter private room’ item from the list box on the right. You can then invite others to join you by clicking on the link to their name (if they are online) and selecting the option to invite them.
A caveat: These are new features, and there may be issues when you use them. So we would greatly appreciate it if you could use them as much as possible and report any issues you have. This will be helpful to us in deciding whether we should keep them or look for other alternatives.
Thanks for being part of Naija Stories, and we hope you have a lot of fun using these new features!
