What are the Challenges inhibiting quality ouput and outcome from Nollywood as an industry.

    IGNORANCE.

DESIRING TO INVEST TOO LITTLE AND REAP TOO MUCH.

    GREED.

AND A WHOLE OTHER GAMUT OF THINGS…

But how does one tackle greed in an industry such as Nollywood?

    Lack of research and greed

    Research? How?

I think there are capacity gaps – people filling in a particular role without adequate training and experience.

So at what point do we start to blame poor financing as a major issue the industry is facing?
Which preceeds which, the issue of capacity gaps or that poor financing?

Poor financing is NOT the greatest of ‘Nollywood’s (the name ANNOYS me) problems. If you watch a lot of international movies…you’ll find that low budget movies are usually the best in terms of content, scripting, dialogue, role interpretation and so on. It’s not about the money – first.

What do you think? Are you good writer because there’s a publisher waiting to sell your books – or there is a publisher waiting to sell your books BECAUSE you are a good writer?

In other words we’ve established that we lack people with adequate skills and capacity to undertake the affairs of the industry.
How does NaijaStories as a community and its members fit into scheme of things???

The idea (from my standpoint) is to become a force/cornerstone of fresh, original, compelling story telling from Nigerian youths. With the expansion of Naijastories…and a powerful platform for newer Nigerian literary voices to be heard…they will wake up.

And if they don’t, we’ll do their job for them…and take over that their small corner in the process.

Interesting. If we (NS as a Community) were to arrange some kind of sit-down with major stakeholders in the industry and present to them a brilliant overview of ways to improve the industry, do you think such a move will welcomed accordingly?

When I said research, I meant they do movies without researching what they are even acting, like what it means and its effect, its always just a movie for monet to be made.

I don’t think so. Do you have any idea how many ‘workshops’ Nollycrap has every year?!?

Don’t bother about convincing anyone. Do your part…they’ll come to you.

There must be someway we here as a community can influence positive outcomes in that industry, I believe.

Yes. By putting out quality stuff.

Maybe someday…we work on a short movie….and then see what happens.
