What are your best Hollywood and Nollywood movies of 2012?
December 19, 2012 at 10:52 pm #113788Personally, I think the best Nollywood film I saw this year was Ties That Bind.
Battleship, Avengers…
December 20, 2012 at 12:33 am #113789…Battleship and Avengers follow for Nollywood? o_O
December 20, 2012 at 12:36 am #113790@jaywriter, I didn’t have much time for movies in the second half of the year, but I din watch some good ones, I must say. However, I have no idea if U mean movies that were released in 2012, or that I watched irrespective of the release year.
December 20, 2012 at 2:38 pm #113791On a blog I’m currently running, http://universana.blogspot.com/ I made a compilation of best Movies, Books and Musics from all over; nolly, bolly, jaywriterlly, etc. Mostly this year’s releases. So, you can catch up with those you missed.
December 20, 2012 at 9:38 pm #113792@raymond I realised I saw lots of 2011 movies this year too. It was almost like the few 2012 movies I saw were the ones at the cinema. Avengers and Battleship na Hollywood oh. I think I saw Battleship at Genesis after @jefsaraurmax mentioned something about Rihanna’s acting skills. I think it was on the forum about who will play characters in an NS post or something.
@babyada ama surely check them out. You tried compiling the best muses too?
December 21, 2012 at 1:34 am #113793My best 2012 movie is ‘Continuum’. Released in 2012, not sure if it’s in Nigerian market yet. You guys really need to watch that movie…
December 21, 2012 at 1:39 am #113794My best 2012 movie is ‘Continuum’. Released in 2012, not sure if it’s in Nigerian market yet. You guys really need to watch that movie…
December 21, 2012 at 1:39 am #113795@ablyguy, can’t find it. Hollywood? Who are the actors? Unless you mean the Serial TV SHow, which is not a movie…that’s the only Continuum released, with the other one being Stargate:Continuum (2008).
December 21, 2012 at 1:55 am #113796The best movies I watched this year have got to be Skyfall, The Dark Knight Rises, Avengers, Alex Cross, Dredd 3D, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (the best in the Mission Impossible series), The Raid (awesome, AWESOME movie)…and I’m still gonna watch some more (hopefully) before the year runs out.
December 21, 2012 at 2:25 am #113797@Raymond, yeah, the TV series, that’s the one… For 2012 movies check out, Safe, Lockout and Expendables 2
December 21, 2012 at 8:48 am #113798Lockout was an epic fail. Quote me.
Safe is okay. I enjoyed Avengers. Dark Knight was a major flop for me. Haven’t seen Skyfall.
December 21, 2012 at 3:00 pm #113799Safe is okay, Lockout is highly rumored to be a dud (didn’t enjoy the first 10 minutes anyway, so…go figure). The Dark Knight Rises was not a flop for me. I just think that the little twist at the end was the only let-down; we’d all been led to expect that Bane was to be the final busstop; didn’t think much of what Nolan did. Felt a bit contrived. Other than that, it was a great movie. Avengers was fun, and Expendables 2 is like Avengers, except with old men in it. Skyfall deserves every credit it gets, and more, simple. The Bourne Legacy….not bad.
December 21, 2012 at 7:25 pm #113800Ties that bind was a great movie, @jaywriter. I hope that there are more movies in this fashion.
I hear that more Nollywood movie producers want their movies aired in cinemas these days, but I also hear that cinema goers are more discriminating than VCD watchers, so I hope this makes movie makers step their game up.
Skyfall was a disappointment (not sure what you saw in it, @raymond). I enjoyed the Dark Knight Rises very much – it was ‘the thinking man’s action movie’ for me. Avengers was fun.
Some of the other movies I’ve really liked:
- Hunger Games
- Chronicle
- Good Deeds
- Sparkle
- Premium Rush
- End of Watch
- Looper
- Cloud Atlas
- Flight
- Life of PiDecember 21, 2012 at 8:54 pm #113801@TolaO A lot of producers are trying to go the cinema route even though some miss out. With cinema, it’s a little more complicated because you have to drag the audience to see your movie. This is unlike the VCD/DVD that you send to the audience.
On Ties That Bind, there are very few ‘artie’ filmmakers in Nigeria so I don’t know how many of such movies we will see every year. And again, there might not be enough audience if we get too many of such movies made. The cinema structure won’t be good enough.
And about cinema audience being ‘descrimating’, I don’t get what you mean by that.
I haven’t seen Skyfall but when I do, I will see it as an action movie and not a Bond movie. Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace are great action films but as Bond films, not what I am used to.
I’m likely gonna love any film by Nolan.
I’ll agree with you guys on Safe, it’s okay.
