I’ve learnt a lot I know about writing from foreign authors, and I’m guessing I’m not the only one. After all, as writers we are supposed to be wide readers. So let’s know your favourite foreign author… the one you enjoy his/ her books so much. The one who,if you are given an opportunity to meet, you wouldn’t hesitate.

Okay, I’ll start. I love Sidney Sheldon to bits! That man’s mind is twisted (in a good way)I’ve never had cause to regret reading any of his books. He’s just full of amazing plots!

John Steinbeck. “East of Eden” is one of my favorite books.Harper Lee only published one book “To Kill a Mockingbird” but it is a great one.

I love Steve Berry and Darn Brown novels… those guys are my model.

I love Neil Gaiman, especially his American Gods. JK Rowling did good with the HP series, I haven’t read her latest book though…

@francis, Dan Brown is a good writer, but not a good storyteller. He is boring.

My fave Foreign authors include Stephen King (my biggest influence), Peter Straub, Lee Child, Eric Van Lustbader, Elmore Leonard, Jonathan Maberry, Anne Rice, Jefferey Deaver and Brent Weeks.

Yes quite a lot, but this is because they work in different genres, so they are my best in their particular genres.

So there…now you know my secret.

@Raymond, you’re right to an extent. He isn’t much of a story teller. His books are mostly brain teasers.

I find Brown’s books appealing to me because of my interest in his profession, and it usually comes with extensive researches. I’ve read all of his five novels and I was never bored with any of them. I love the riddles, information and profound descriptions embedded in his books. I use to read them with a dictionary by my side. At least two of his novels has made it to the movies, that’s to tell you how good he is. I really like that guy… I’ll check out that Jonathan Maberry, a friend had mentioned him to me some time ago.

@francis, Jonathan Maberry is awesome. Dan Brown? Meh. The reason his books made it to movies is cos of the controversial nature of those books. That’s all. Reading him is like reading a 400-page research paper; I want to be entertained man! >_<

My favourite foreign authors are Jeffrey Archer(his Not a Penny,Not a Penny Less,Kane & Abel for example are masterpieces),John Grisham (The Firm,A Time to Kill,The Runnaway Jury, The Client), Agatha Christie,Georgette Heyer,Ian Flemming(All James Bonds novels),Leon Uris,Francine Rivers,James Michener(he writes epics like “Hawaii”),James Clavell(his Asian Saga novels include Tai-Pan,Shogun & Noble House),Arthur Hailey(his attention to detail on whichever industry he writes on[banks-The Moneychangers,Airports-Airport;hospitals-Final Diagnosis;pharmaceuticals-Strong Medicine etc] is fantastic),Alistair Maclean,Helen McInnes,Denise Robbins(though I’ve not read any of her books in a long while she was my favourite in Grammar school) and Enid Blyton (yes,she writes mainly children’s books but I’ve not read any other children’s author that beats her in my opinion).Janet Dailey (for her Calder series) also makes my list.

Stephen King(the King of Kings) is my idol, but I have soft spots for James Lee Burke, Elmore Leonard, J.K Rowling, Robert Jordan whose Eye of d Earth series makes d Harry Potter books look average. There s also Maya Angelou n James Patterson. Men, these whites can write. Esp the Americans

For some reason i can’t explain, i absolutely love Nora Roberts Novels. There is just something unique about her storylines that draws me in. i never get tired of her novels. Then when it comes to inspirational books, give me a Joyce Meyer’s book any day , any time
