I write. Is this enough to call myself a writer? What do you believe constitute the attributes of a writer? Is it to be paid for writing? Is it to not be able to go on without writing? Chime in and give your own idea of what it is to be a writer.

Wow! @Jefsaraurmax THANK YOU for bringing this topic up as a group topic! I remember strolling around Enestera one day and coming across a similar challenge on @myself aka Leewid ‘s ‘wall’. The queation kept me awake that night . The next day, I was fortunate to stumble on a blog that discussed the topic from one writer’s perspective and guess what ? I totally agreed! To summarise it here she(or was it he ) said: You are a writer when you call yourself one.

I totally agree with @sunshine, you are a writer when you call yourself one. It is then left to your work to show whether you are a great writer, good writer, poor writer, or bad writer.

Precisely! I even think the same goes for this fruitless debate about what is or isnt poetry. If it is written in verse and it can be read understood and appreciated by the users of the language it is written then it is poetry. Good poetry or great poetry though is quite a different matter! :-) . @chemokopi @xikay :-P

A writer is someone that writes, and writes well enough for others to accept him as one.

A kid was drawing on a sheet of paper on a Sunday. When her dad
inquired what she was drawing, she simply said, “God.” God? but
no one has seen God, the father retorted. “Don’t worry dad, they
will see him after I must have finished drawing” she gleefully
    said.

I agree with Kaycee’s point. I don’t believe you’re a writer because you imposed the title on yourself. Valid questions being: have your writing inspired men? Does it speak to people and make them think, even if it’s for a minute? I can not call myself a footballer just because I play the game on Saturdays, to become one, I have to move beyond play… that’s what writing is about… WORK.

@sunshine saw you welcome note but can’t reply to it. A lil help please, this site seems to be a frustrating maze…
