We read those powerful and touching stories on NS; they have elicited comments and criticisms from fellow NS members and readers.

But I believe behind every story there must be some trivia to share – it could be anything …what inspired you to write the story, how many times you wrote it before you hit the right one, How you accidentally end up writing a particular poem, what happened to your story before you could post it etc.

Its got to be a story, poem or article you’ve posted on the site so we’re all familiar with it.

For example – Here’s a trivia for my story ‘Night Riders – Shit Happens’
It actually happened and when I was told I laughed so hard and felt like telling somebody else…thats when I got the epiphany – why not turn it into a story?

There’s this friend of mine who had this coursemate that kept stalking her. He did everything he could for her even though she made it clear that she wasn’t interested. one day, in my presence, he told her that if he doesn’t end up with her, he’ll kill himself cause he won’t be able to take it.

It made me laugh hard but it inspired Because You Loved Me.

@Jaywriter …I remember that one. That was beautiful story. Good stories are usually strong when they are tied to actual reality. Now I’m convinced that your story was a true-life experience!

@gooseberry…that was a powerfully sad poem! And I can see how the true-life incident inspired it…the scary fact is that it can really happen.

The poem, NS Writers (to critics) was inspired by NS commenters with very strange comments.
Comments like, “this doesn’t do it for me”,”I didn’t really feel this..” and others.

‘The Writer’s Cinema’ was inspired by my situation in school as a final year student. My ex girlfriend was playing some funny games with me; the games were so disturbing to my then-new girlfriend that she swore never to come visiting again. Coincidentally, I was thinking of a story idea for the JLF competition (which Henry Onyema eventually won) during the period. So one evening, while my girlfriend was around, the story idea just jumped into my head. Wrote it in less than 30mins! Somehow, I didn’t send the story for the JLF competition. The other one I sent got me to the finals but my final story didn’t make the cut. Today, ‘The Writer’s Cinema’ has gotten me an anthology publication…
