@TolaO and @Seun, yes, a movie is in the works. It is supposed to have Chiwetelu Ejiofor as Odenigbo, Thandie Newton as Olanna (I thought she would play Kainene; she fits the slim, carefree persona) and one white guy as Richard. Biyi Bandele is to direct it, or something like that….

ROWLINGS WANTED TO GIVE OUT HER SIGNATURE FOR HARRY POTTER TO BECOME A MOVIE, SHE INSISTED THAT ALL THE ACTORS AND ACTRESSES BE BRITISH. I AM QUITE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS. YOU TAUGHT NIGERIANS TO TELL THEIR OWN STORIES. WHY NOT TEACH THEM TO ACT THEIR OWN STORIES TOO. IT IS QUITE DISCONCERTING THAT FOREIGNERS WHO DID NOT WITNESS THE WAR, WHOSE RELATIVES were not stuffed in a train back to the East after the Kano Massacre, Those WHO DID NOT READ UR FIRST PLAY “For the Love of Biafra”; those who do not share our fears, our weaknesses, our realities are taking over our stories; our world. Is that not part of the Exploitation of Africa? How do you expect Yaya Daccosta or Thandie to speak Igbo? Come to think of it, can they act better than Omotola? I am greatly disturbed. Even though this appears to be a Rejuvenation of African literature, I see it as the DEATH of our growing consciousness. One thing is clear. I will NEVER watch that movie if Thandie or Yaya Dacoosta acts it. I connected with Olanna. I cannot bear seeing foreigners lay claim over one of African’s Greatest stories. It is never going to happen. ONE LOVE

Personally, I would have preferred choosing Purple Hibiscus… I feel that Half of a Yellow Sun is great as a book, but the story line is too dreary for a movie. I guess that HoaYS is probably more ‘epic’ in the eyes of the movie maker.

I agree with @jaywriter on all his points. I’d rather think on what the movie will do for both the literary and movie industry in Nigeria than bother about race.

I think we shd look into this more critically.Chimamanda wants d money nd she gets it,irrespective of who plays d roles.She would have insisted on an all Nigerian cast or nothing.We av great actors here dat shd b given d chance esp d unknown ones.My take.
