@Julemyles,
You didn’t really answer my questions directly; in fact, funnily enough, you gave the most detailed answer to the bonus question.
However, this is what I discern from the answer you gave.
You say that you want to “improve your learning as a writer” and gain “a wide knowledge” from “the experiences of [other] writers”.
You also speak about “goals” that you would like to accomplish in writing, even though you like reading. The sense I get here is that reading has your heart (what you enjoy), but writing has your head (i.e. it is what you believe you should do).
It would have been nice to hear explicitly from you why you want to switch from Creative Writing to English Literature… I’m guessing that you believe that since English Literature is the ‘father’ of Creative Writing, you can get even more from switching to EL.
From my discernings above, it looks like you should go for the CL course, because you believe it will help you in what I believe is your desire to become a better writer. I don’t know whether there is the option of doing major-minor degrees, or whether you can take courses that are offered in one program as an elective in another; if so, I would say major in CL and minor in EL, or do the CL course and take lots of EL electives.
But of course, this incomplete advice, since I don’t have all the answers to my questions. What you should REALLY do is to lock yourself in a dark cupboard where nobody can see you and ponder those questions privately… the answers you come up with will help you make a decision.
