This topic is for those who want to be published. Tell me WHY you do.
I’m simply curious, regarding the different reasons that people seek publication. If you consider it a silly question, you might enjoy yourself more in another topic.
I will start by disclosing mine.
March 20, 2012 at 9:24 pm #112450Personal satisfaction that i`m doing something positve, hopefully inspiring, touching life in amazing way and pride, a sense of achievement. The feeling of being recognised, or of one’s work being recognised. For me it’s not about earning a living from it, though if it ever happens that would be nice (and I know that’s a cliche). Also, I suppose it’s a journey of learning, improving, of making mistakes, and publication is the goal at the end of the journey; but then that first publication would probably mark the start of a new journey.
March 20, 2012 at 10:01 pm #112451For me, it’s been a childhood dream. I’d always read authors and think “I could do better than this!” I always had a small audience of friends and family listening to my stories, everyday after school.
As I grew older, I realized how much I wanted to have people hear me and what better way than having my works published? I’ve so much to tell people by my works, so that’s it!March 25, 2012 at 2:04 pm #112452The joy on the faces of my readers, knowing they’v been touched and they’v been taught something worth learning, in a pleasant way…that’s what I always want to see.
March 26, 2012 at 1:20 pm #112453Exactly.
I would like to be able to share my own unique view/perspective on this world and the little things that connect us to each other. I really want to know that there’s a lot of people who read something I wrote and feel like ‘Hey! This guy just told my story!’
That; and of course to make God proud.
March 26, 2012 at 6:51 pm #112454I agree with seun, I would like to leave it as a mark when I’m gone, more than that though is the fact that I particularly like to write about things people dont like to talk about, so I would like to be quite controversial! and above it all, I love to write, I dont really bother that its not for profit, I love to share my love with everyone!
March 27, 2012 at 10:29 am #112455First…I don’t want to end up like that stupid servant in that Biblical parable that went to bury his talent in the ground and ended up losing it to another servant. God would be mad at me if I just remained insignificant and wasted a whole brain for nothing!
Secondly…people keep screaming at me that I write good stuff and they keep looking at me like I’m must be nuts when I say I’m not published.
But getting published is an understatement of my own dream sha…I dreaming way beyond that…
March 28, 2012 at 4:34 am #112456@Afronuts, that parable is the one that actually got me to take my writing seriously, once I understood it. Thank God I did…
As for publishing, well, I want the world to know that 9ja has a Stephen King, Jonathan Maberry, Daniel Silva, Eric Van Lustbader and Lee Child, all rolled into one.

Looking forward to you’re feedback.December 16, 2012 at 8:54 pm #112463I’ve read quite a lot of books that makes me feel jealous. I’d kill to write like that. Reading some pieces, I feel the exhilaration of a literary calling. I hate the authors for writing so darn well when it should have been me. Sometimes I get the feeling that my thoughts have been “plagiarized” by some kinda voodoo scheme. I would love for someone to feel the way I feel about these authors that have traversed time and space to berth in my heart and make such profound impressions of love and respect (in my case, green-eyed and veiled as hate)
I have written stuffs written years ago that stun me when I read them now(as haughty as that sounds) and I wonder what really did possess me at the time. it feels good that I’m jealous of me and I can sensibly take credit for it. I want more of that feeling on a grand scale.
Vain me??? Ok bite me!My head is always buzzing with situations that would make a good story and I am always writing trifle nothings on a scrap book; watching movies, reading, travelling etc. I once told a very good friend that if I die today,he should ensure that my trifle nothings get into a paperback some way or the other as a lasting legacy for me. he told me to be quick with something coherent/cohesive so that he wouldn’t be saddled with some post-humous obligation.
