No more death

Ufuoma,

In our younger years, when we got our textbooks missing,

We cried home, accompanied by the pain of losing something so Ours

Because we lived in a strange new world were every other thing we wanted was someone else’s.

We cried home, and wished and sometimes told mommy…for relief.

But today, Ufuoma, today….

That pain has multiplied into a factor of infinity…

Not matching your small steps but crowding every beat of your heart

Every breath of your lungs

Because it is not a book you lost…

One imprints on books…

What you lost imprinted on you…

And loosing that leaves you blank…

Ufuoma, it is not a book you lost…

It is something more yours than a book can ever be…

It is laughs and teasing and protecting…

It is annoyance and anger because you cared…

It is memory… It is blood…it is love…

And love leaving is like a meteor crashing into earth…

Wiping out life as it was….

Calling forth a cold age…a cold rage…

From a promise broken….this promise:

“And death shall have no dominion…

…Though they sink through the sea they shall rise again;

Though lovers be lost love shall not…”

But we will not let go easy of such strong promise…

We will drain the grief that encircles you like a predator crouching for the kill

We will drain it of vitality to renew that promise…

“Death, where is your victory? Grave, where is your sting”

Ufuoma,

And death shall be no more….nor mourning…or crying

Ufuoma!

And death shall have no dominion!
