Brief comments by the judges to authors of the top 5 stories:

Congratulations Ardah. We are pleased to announce that you are the Winner of the Challenge Me Contest for new writers which started months ago. We are also glad you decided to join the NaijaStories family where you don’t only get to read, learn, you also get to perfect your skills in writing. Your entry “Green” was picked for various reasons and one that we most definitely stressed on was that each contestants follow the guidelines of the prompt they chose to work on. Now Ardah there are still many things you will need to work on and that’s why you have us here at Naijastories. The icing on the cake would have been to have your story posted on April 1st on April fools day because your twist in the story was what your readers really enjoyed in your piece even though it was one that everyone didn’t agree on due to it’s content. We hope to see more of you around. Keep writing!

Thank you for your entry Kunle Ladi. We are pleased to announce that you are the 1st runner up for the Challenge Me Contest for new writers which started months ago. We are also glad you decided to join the NaijaStories family where you don’t only get to read, learn, you also get perfect your skills in writing. Your entry “The Remedy Dinner” was worth extending the date of the contest over for so we could get your entry in. Writing in a 2nd POV is not an easy task and you made your way through it without much scratches. What you can do now is work more on your punctuations and dialogues. Your title drew most of your readers in and titles are key factors when it comes to writing. We are glad you participated in this competition. We hope to see more of you on Naijastories, Kunle.

Thank you for your entry Kellyshor. We are pleased to announce that you are the 2nd runner up for the Challenge Me Contest for new writers which started months ago. We are also glad you decided to join the NaijaStories family where you don’t only get to read, learn, you also get to perfect your skills in writing. Your piece “The other Side of The Sun” was different and definitely one that stood out. Your entry was the only piece we received for that particular prompt. We enjoyed your work and the great knowledge behind it. Welcome to Naijastories and we hope to see more from you.

Thank you for your entry “Her Husband’s Fate” Wisdom. We are also glad you decided to join the NaijaStories family where you don’t only get to read, learn, you also get to perfect your skills in writing. Your cover picture was great and spot on. You are such an already wonderful writer but the twist at the ending of your piece was quite unrealistic. Directors will not randomly cast an actor or anyone on the streets without notifying them which made your story not believable. We hope that you continue to write because we believe you can do better. We would also like to see more of you on Naijastories.

Thank you for participating in the Challenge Me Contest for new writers Dominic. We are pleased that your entry made the shortlist. We are also glad you decided to join the NaijaStories family where you don’t only get to read, learn, you also get to perfect your writing skills. We hope that you enjoyed this experience and also, remember that you were already a winner the day you decided to send in your entry. Nevertheless, your piece did not have a cover picture which was one of the requirements on the competition guidelines. You had a good story in mind but your delivery was what hindered you from making “Dead Dog” a winning piece. We enjoyed the twist at the end and we hope that your stay on Naijastories will help bring out the best in you.

Thanks to everyone who participated in this contest! The new writers must surely have benefited from all the comments on their stories. Till the next contest, keep reading and writing and supporting each other. Cheers!

  1. Wait a minute… There are typos, bad punctuation, and all the “JUDGES” came up with this bizarre review? Has the admin account been hacked? What’s going on here?

  2. Lol! – “it had an absolute mature writer feel” I am not sure this looks good for naijastories. Anyway, congratulations to the winners… I guess? (There were also lots of unnecessary ellipses. Dear judges, please work on your grammar.)

  3. It would have made sense if links to the stories were embedded here.

I think you guys should check out the stories well before you start questioning the judges’ decisions. This selection might not be perfect but some did worth their place, considering the fact that there were only entries. For me, “Green” by @ardah worths first place, beautiful piece-though there were a few unnecessary ‘stuffs’ but it is quite good. I don’t see any other piece beating to first place. Remedy dinner is good too, I prefer it to “hell of a dinner.”
The selection is fair considering how small the number of entries was.
You guys should appreciate this instead…I might not be overly satisfied with the selection, but the judges did a fair job.
    Well done.

  5. congrats to the winners. *just passing by

  6. Congratulations to the winners and kudos to all who participated–though your work was dropped as the competition progressed, that does not, in any way, mean you’re not good.

And I’m sure members are looking forward to more contests @ogaoga.

  7. They say the Judge’s judgement is final….so what else are we to say than congrats to the winners.
However, the review comments by the Judge is nothing to write home about. It’s too simplistic and not deep enough.

    *chuckles hysterically*
    *shakes head*

Congrats to the winners. Thank you, NS.

  9. Now that’s how Judges make a contest worth the while for the contestants! @praize I never had a problem with the winners, I have actually read the stories; I just felt that the Judges owed the contestant more. I am happy that this post was updated. In case I forgot to say it out loud the first time, congratulations to all the winners. Best of luck!

  10. congrats to all the winners. I wish “Her husband’s fate” would have placed sha.

  11. Big ups to the winners.

  12. @ogaoga we would appreciate links to these stories. Congratulations to all winners.
