A Mother’s Child

Conceived in the month of Love;

Tormented in the womb of Joy;

Laboured in tears and pain;

Treasured in the arms he lay.

The midwife slapped his foot soles

And his bald cry took its place amongst the elements.

With tiny little hands and tiny little feet,

Every time she looked at him her heart skipped a beat.

A gift he was from Heaven above;

A perfect example of God’s precious Love.

He blossomed as he suckled her breasts;

Pain and discomfort clothed with Joy.

A beauty assumed his form,

And Dad saw in him his mum.

Today he stands tall,

Hidden from the light she shone.

Not quite the man she hoped;

Proud the man he had become.

Leaving to find his road,

On a plain white sheet he wrote.

I want to see, and touch, and hear;

Though there are dangers, thoughts and fears.

I’ll smile my smiles, and wipe my tears;

Please let me speak my say.

I’m off to find my world, my dreams;

Carve my niche, sew my seams’

But remember as I sail my seas,

I will love you all the way.

On this blessed day she prayed;

I hope all your dreams come true

Cos memories of you can’t be frayed

Happy birthday to you,

My angel gone wild in the rain.

  1. @ROY-JOURNALS. This is lovely, there is nothing more beautiful than a mothers love but the day always comes when we just have to let go and follow our dreams but that motherly love goes everywhere with us.

      @danjuma Thanks for the comment, and thanks for finding it lovely. A mother’s love for her child goes beyond all boundaries. No matter How far a child runs he would always remain present in his mother’s heart.

  2. No matter how far they go or run, we will always love them. And not just mothers, but fathers too. My husband, for example, is not much of a talker, but I am aware that he loves his children as passionately as I do. In my home, this is the way we say it, “I love you lavishly”
    Thanks for this great poem

      Thanks so much @folakemi I really appreciate your comment. It’s true a father loves a child as much as its mother but the bond between a mother and a child is almost indescribable.
      “I love you lavishly.”
      I’d definitely say that to my mum someday.
      You sound like a great mum. Bless your soul.
