My Boss’ Wife: Episode 5

Three days later, it was broadcast that there was a bomb blast in the Federal Capital Territory. The bomb was said to be detonated at the early hours of the morning rush, claiming not less than twenty-seven lives. The names of certain senators and political juggernauts were mentioned among the victims and that made me worried. I was not ready to miss my husband yet. We’ve just re-ignited the romantic lights of our life and I’m not willing to let him go at such a time. On my way back from Odin’s school, I tried calling my husband but none of his numbers were going through. What is happening? Tears began dropping from my eyes, creating a tributary on my face, moving down my neck and body. We used to talk together, laugh together as I’ve always known he loved me, if not for his ambitions that made him the person he has fast become already.

Reaching the gate of our house, I shouted at the gateman to bring me today’s papers. On the “Truth Seekers”, the headline reads: “7 Senators pronounced Death.” It shocked me and made me almost bashed my car on the wall.

Getting inside the house, I went straight to our room and carried the picture that stood on the table.

“Oh honey, please don’t go please; don’t leave me yet. When it’s time, we’ll go together.” I was soliloquizing. All of a sudden, my phone beeped, it was Busayo. Though we shared the same English name, Anthonia, I preferred calling her Busayo just as she often called me Tony-baby.

“Tony-baby, what’s up?”

“I’m good and you?”

“I’m happy to tell you that our wedding date has finally been fixed.”

“Wow! I’m elated to know that?”

“You know what? It’s on June 12.”

“Really, that’s a historic date and your wedding is going to be a memorable one too.”

“Let’s sing Amen to that Tonia.”

“That’s perfect.”

“I lead and you respond accordingly.”

“Great Busayo.”

“Let’s shout Amen six times after the name JEHOVAH-RAPHA.”

“Je-ho-vah-Ra-pha, A-men, A-men, A-men, A-men, A-men and the great A-men.”

“A-mennnnnnnn.” I deliberately dragged the last one.

“You’ve made my day.” Busayo said laughing out loud.

“Busayo, I should be thanking you for stealing away my worry.”

“What’s the matter?”

“You’ve not heard? My husband went to the Federal Capital Territory to see one senator and the papers are saying about seven senators were victims of the last bomb blast. The worst of it all, I’ve been trying my husband’s number and none of his numbers is going through. I just don’t know what to do?”

“What’s our country turning to?”

“Our country is becoming so unsecured as we now sleep with eyes wide open because the next bomb blast may be right on our heads.”

“My dear, you have to calm down. I know this would be a trying time for you but you have to relax and think through it. We can no longer talk with heads held high about our country, no, not anymore.”

“Ours is a country where the abnormal now becomes normal. In fact, bombing has become the “modus operandi.” I’m just scared jare.”

“Hey, before I forget, I’m coming over to discuss our wedding ceremony with you. Many things are on my head, who to invite, what food to prepare, clothes to wear and change and what have you.”

“That’s fine, that will also make me think less about the bomb blast naah.”

  1. Short….short….shoortttttt…

Bust this busayo gurl is an attention whore sha…everything has to revolve around hrr a d her never going to happen wedding…mchewwww

    1. YAY!!!! This is quite short but I’m working to make the subsequent episodes lengthier and better.

Many many thanks @schatzilein for dropping your word :)

  2. I pray her husband is not affected!

    1. Yup yup @LONE, hoping he is not with the dead oooooooooo

  3. Wait a minute, its either this girl has a strong heart or she doesn’t care much, I mean Tony-Baby.. Her husband’s maybe dead or alive and she’s “Happy” that someone took away her worries? She’s still supposed to have worries now!

And Busayo too, I don’t think she’s a real Yoruba girl. Instead of sympathising fully, she’s still bringing up wedding plans. @innoalifa, make sure you shoot her when this series is over :D

Nice piece. Awaiting the next piece.

    1. Hahahahahaha, to tell you the truth, if Tonia and Busayo refuse to use common sense and act accordingly, trust me naah, I will break her legs before this series is over.

Thanks for stopping by @Hextophar :)

  4. Quite short and it didn’t give us much to punder on. However, Busayo should have been more sympathetic with friend rather than rubbing her wedding in her face.

    1. @kingobozy, a bunch of thanks for reading and commenting :)

  5. Too short, no clue to her husband’s whereabouts, I agree with @hextophar plss shoot her and remember to break tony-baby’s legs, she suppose take flight run to abuja to inquire about her hubby not plan wedding.
Ewooo she wan tink less abt the blast sef.

    1. Chai, you wan make she fly go ABJ abi? I wouldn’t forget to scatter er legs and make her tattered if she doesn’t employ common sense which is not so common.

      I appreciate your reading @ameenaedrees :)

  6. Since I’ve been out of the country it’s nice to hear someone else’s take on the bombing situation, which as you correctly pointed out, has become common place. Its distasteful and honestly shameful to see how the country is wasting away. Aside from a one or two grammatical errors (typos?) this was nice :)

    1. Hope wherever you are now is peaceful and more homely. Thanks for stopping by @feiO :)

  7. The element of suspense works well here… unfortunately I don’t have a clue to the background of the plot so I can’t clutch at some ends: Who Busayo is for instance.
Short, like has already been said. And lines like ‘We used to talk together, laugh together as I’ve always known he loved me, if not for his ambitions that made him the person he has fast become already’ could be treated with more literary finesse. With all these in considerations – and while I can’t tell a good story from just one chapter – there are spurts of potential for this story, Well done

    1. @wendeekay, your reading this episode and leaving behind your impression gladdens my heart. You could check out the other episodes at your leisure.

      Thanks a great deal :

  8. OKAY SIR THIS IS A GOOD PIECE BUT HELL TOO SHORT. I WAS expecting her to go hysterical on Busayo but she just switched mood very quick, too quick for someone that claims to love her husband. and Busayo just came into the story without much work on knowing her. how come she now calls tony-baby for everything? we don’t know how close they were before now. but nice piece. please try to build the story to make us want more. ehen! abeg i get gun to take shoot Busayo.

    1. Chai, you get gun to scatter Busayo head abi? If your gun no get bullet, I get excess for here.

Thanks for reading and commenting @oxymoron93 :)

    2. @innoalifa I have to agree, this is her husband’s life we’re talking about not something trivial. It seemed a bit odd how she so easily swayed from one mood to the other.

      1. That’s truly true; her husband’s life is at stake and she’s swaying from one mood to another lolz.

I appreciate your commenting @feiO :) You could check out the sixth episode, it’s already published.

  9. Hmmm….she still has doubts about the rekindled relationship working out fine jor

    1. Hmmm….let’s keep our fingers crossed as we follow through the unfolding of the story.

Thanks for stopping by @menoveg :)

  10. I had read the past three episodes, hoping the story would move along, but not much seems to be happening in the MC’s life, @innoalifa. She has attended a party, things are picking up a bit on the home front, and that’s just about it. Hopefully, things will pick up in the next episodes.

Your dialogue is OK, but you still need to work on your tenses and other typos in your story. For example, in the first paragraph:

Three days later, it was broadcast that there was had been a bomb blast in the Federal Capital Territory. The bomb was said to be detonated at in the early hours of the morning rush, claiming not less than twenty-seven lives. The names of certain senators and political juggernauts were mentioned among the victims and that made me worried. I was not ready to miss my husband yet. We’ve We had just re-ignited the romantic lights of our life and I’m I was not willing to let him go at such a time. On my way back from Odin’s school, I tried calling my husband but none of his numbers were going through. What is was happening? Tears began dropping (better to use ‘flowing’ or ‘streaming’ rather than ‘dropping’; ‘dropping’ makes it look like the tears fell through space ) from my eyes, creating a tributary on my face, moving down my neck and body (this is overblown. Tears do not usually flow as far down as the body, especially if the person is wearing clothes. Keep it simple. ). We used to talk together, laugh together as I’ve I had always known he loved me, if not for his ambitions that made him the person he has had fast become already. (this is a clumsy construct; it is better as ‘I had always known he loved me, except that nowadays, his ambition had turned him into a neglectful person’ ).

    1. To say the least, this is one of the best criticisms I’ve got for my story. I sincerely lack words to express my gratitude to you. I beseech you to keep reading criticizing.

      Thanks a million @TolaO :)

  11. The mood swing was indeed too quick – although not impossible, it only reveals how much love she has.
The story is getting more intriguing!
    Keep writing.

    1. @Levuz, I really do appreciate your stopping by :)

  12. O-Money (@Omoniyi-Adeshola)

@innoalifa, this series is like a swing ride, it just throws one. The MC needs a psych eval sha. You are doing aiit tho. Well done.

    1. @Omoniyi-Adeshola, thanks for dropping a word :)
