The Waits of the World

The Waits of the World

Daybreak waits in
darkness.

In a buried seed,
a forest waits
underground,
like melodies
wait in a guitar’s
strings,
and love letters wait
in a pen,
and meanings
– hidden in riddles –
wait in words
strangely spoken;
nations wait
in my loins,
and my daughter’s
teeth wait in her gums,
as the tears in her head
wait to be
shed.

Women wait
to be wanted,
to be wooed,
to be won,
to be wed,
to be warmed at night,
and to be waited upon.

Arrows
– destined to pierce –
wait to be
shot,
and death waits
in a last
heartbeat.

But
light waits
on the other side of the night.

‘Time is God’s way of keeping everything from happening at once.’

Hold on;
wait.

  1. Time ‘waits’ for no man, hence the rush, but truly, things happen after a wait, we just rarely realize.

  10. @josephoguche, this line is true. And it’s in quotation marks, pointing to the truth that it isn’t original to me. Thanks for your comment, though.
