An unseen freedom

An unseen freedom

They say we are free
but i see no bird flying
They say we are free
yet we lay our heads down in darkness
They say we are free
yes this is all they say!
They say we are free
yet our minds are lost to insecurity
They say we are free
yes this is all they say!
They say we are free
yet poverty has become our daily bread
Curse to them that speak freedom!
Curse to them that speak freedom
They say we are free
because they sleep in gold and silver
They say we are free
because they are not here with us
They say we are free
but it is an unseen freedom.

  1. Freedom in chains. A paradox innit?
    Nice. $ß.

  2. Nice poem, some what angry if I can say. But if we, the future, get there, will we really act any differently?

    1. That’s if we really want change, yes we will.

    Nice one!

    1. Thanks for the comment

  4. i like the way the poem captured the frustration of the narrator…the exasperation was vivid. the refrain ”they say we are free, yet this is all they say” worked real nice…
the first two lines were my favourite ”they say we are free, yet i see no bird flying” nice imagery

  5. Interesting theme, @poeticj, but after the first four lines, I began to find the poem a bit too repetitive.

    1. Okay thanks Tola for the observations, well in poetry writing all poets have his or her style in communicating,i feel with much repetition i can make my message understood by my audience and that’s my style.
