Lookout for Miss Right- Episode 11

Immediately I wished I hadn’t picked the call. The sleep disappeared instantly from my eyes.

“Jake…where are you?” She asked without any preamble.

I hesitated. “Why are you asking?”

“You were a naughty boy last night, you know.” her voice sounded husky.

It was then I remembered Chief Odeniran’s threat and my promise. I was to avoid Sonia at all costs.

“Are you there Jake?” She asked.

“I’m a bit busy right now, Sonia. Sorry about last night, but I had to go to work this morning.”

“I’ve forgiven you already, but I need your help.” her voice sounded a bit distant.

I groaned inwardly. What could she want this time?

“I’m sorry but I didn’t know who else to call.” She continued.

“What is it?” I asked, the impatience clear in my voice.

“I’m stuck somewhere right now. I just realised I don’t have any money on me and I need to get home. Can you come pick me up please?” She cooed.

I knew she was lying. This was just another ploy to get me to see her. And I wanted no part in it.

“Call your father.” I said curtly.

“Has he come to see you?” she asked “Is that why you’re being so harsh to me?… Jake, please, come pick me up. I can’t call my Dad…he’ll kill me.”

Kill you? I wanted to say. What about me?

“Then call someone else. I’m busy.” I wasn’t budging.

“I’ll call my father.” The tone of her voice changed. “I’ll tell him you tried to rape me yesterday.”

“What?” I exclaimed. I couldn’t believe my ears. What was this girl up to? Had she been sent to make my life a living hell?

“I’m sorry, Jake. Don’t make me do this. I just need you to pick me up.”

“Why?” I asked “Why me? Why are you doing this? What do you want from me?” I let the frustration show in my voice.

“Jake darling…” The words rolled off her tongue. “I don’t want anything from you. Don’t you understand? I want you.”

The words kept resounding in my ears…’I want you, I want you, I want you’

Without another word, I hung up, not to spite her…but because I was confused. I didn’t know how to respond to that confession. I wasn’t even sure I wanted to respond. The whole situation was weird. I had met this girl once last week and since then my life had become a nightmare.

My phone rang again. This time I checked the caller ID. It was a different number from the one she had used to call me. I debated whether to pick or not. It could be her. I decided to ignore it.

The phone rang for a while and stopped. The next thing I heard was a beep signalling an SMS. I checked it, by the time I read it I was convinced the girl was crazy.

The text said : “Jake, I have the Chief of Police on speed dial. And I won’t hesitate to call. I don’t think you want to sleep in a cell this night. Baby, please don’t make this difficult for me. If you don’t call me for the address within the next five minutes… I’ll be forced to use the number. I’ll be waiting.”

Okay, I’m going to admit I was nervous, perhaps even scared. I had never encountered such a lady before. I had a feeling her threats were not empty. As I pondered on what to do, I was very conscious of the time. Five minutes. She had said. Only five damn minutes to decide whether to risk spending the night in the cell for a fabricated crime or to pick up a wacko girl from wherever she was.

By now I was sweating profusely. Finally, I made a decision. Call me a pansy if you like, but I wasn’t going to deny that she was the one calling the shots here.

I dialed her number, and grudgingly took down the address.

Within minutes I was ready. My mood was spoilt already. See me, that had wanted to get some quality rest, this lady had come from nowhere to spoil my plan. I was going to have to put a stop to this rubbish… and soon.

Anyways, I arrived safely at the hotel, and I said a small prayer before exiting my car.

I entered the hotel lobby; it wasn’t difficult to find her room. I knocked.

“Who is it?” she asked from within.

I hesitated a bit before identifying myself. The door opened almost immediately and there she stood.

She looked every inch the woman that she was. I think she had overdone it a bit, though. Everything about her reeked sensuality. The first thought that came to my mind on seeing her was the title of the famous book “The devil wears Prada.”. She was dressed in a sinfully short, black see-through gown, which showed a generous part of her upper chest. You should know; I’m a guy who has a thing for great legs; I tend to fall for a plain lady with great legs. The short gown Sonia was wearing, showed off her legs, and I wasn’t impressed. I had seen better legs.

“Come in, darling.” She gave me what I think was supposed to be a seductive smile. And if I was not in a bad mood already, I would have fallen for it.

Just looking at her, I knew what her mission was. No woman dressed that way for no good reason. I wondered what lengths she would go to seduce me. Somehow I found my eyes straying to her exposed chest, and I berated myself.

“I’m sorry I had to do it this way.” She was saying. She slipped her hand into mine and pulled me fully into the room.

So here’s the thing. I’ve never been in such a situation before; a woman has never had designs on me the way this one did. She had created a very romantic setting. And if I hadn’t been suspicious already, I wouldn’t have minded at all. The room was dimly lit with coloured candles, the blinds drawn. There were red petals sprayed on the pathway to the bed, the bed was dressed with white linen sheets, and she had gone a step further to decorate the bed with rose petals. There was a bottle of wine standing by the bedside. All in all, a very beautiful setting.

“Do you like it?” She asked.

I hadn’t said a word since I entered; I was still standing, trying to decide what to do.

“Its okay.” I replied, unenthusiastic. “What exactly is all this for?”

“Don’t be like that, darling.” She placed a hand on my chest. “I wanted our first time to be special.”

Blood of Jesus! I wanted to scream.

What on earth had I gotten myself into?

“Sonia, let’s get something straight here…” I began, time to put a stop to this. “The truth is, I don’t know what I’m doing here. I don’t understand what’s going on. But… get this, there is no ‘us’”

Her expression changed instantly. She took a step back and stood with arms akimbo. A woman scorned…

“What are you saying?” She demanded, eyes blazing, chest heaving.

Actually, her chest was a bit of a distraction but I was determined to ignore it.

“I’m saying…You’ve got it all wrong. There’s nothing between us. Frankly, the last place I want to be is here.” I said the words as gently as possible.

“But… I love you, Jake.” She said softly. “And I know you love me too.”

“No…I…” I began.

“No, shut up Jake. And listen to me…I’m in love with you. And I know that you feel the same way too.” She pressed herself against me. “You should know, I’ll go to any length to have you. Read my lips.”

I pried her away from me gently. The situation was getting too intense and I wasn’t sure I could handle anymore. Although I didn’t want to admit it, I was getting scared. I had to get out of there fast.

“I’m sorry, Sonia.” I apologized.

She stared at me for a few seconds, and then just when I thought I had finally gotten through, she stepped away from me, went to the door and locked it. And then she did something strange… she tucked the key into her bra.

There was a mischievous glint in her eyes. “You wanna leave? She asked. “Then come and get it.”

At that moment, I knew I was screwed.
