There lies a loving friend
Deeply seated in your heart . . .
In his, in hers and in mine
She hurts when you hurt
Pained in degrees
No word can measure
She stands when you are down
Chewing the pain lest you die
She reaches out to console
In ways subtle as a blink
Once again, to make you smile
Amid the broken glass
The hedges and thorns
Amid the pains that never go away
So when you cry
When you hurt
And fear you’ll never heal
Your broken heart will never mend
Think of Her
And the burden She bears
While you shed the tears
And fail to see reasons
To stand and live again. . .
Think of Her and how misery
Her colours would sear
Without your warmth
To fend off the advancing cold
Without your laughter
To keep Her happy
Without your breath
To give Her life . . .
Think of all the good times you shared
Though you were mostly unaware
That by you stood She
When it quaked
When it rained
And when you thought
The end was near
Never budging
She whispers in subtlety:
Thump -thump . . . thump-thump . . .
