“Should I bury this secret?”
I conceived it that fateful night
Through the rustling sounds of leaves in the bushes
The fresh dirt that hugged the shovel so perfectly
The earth gave way and put it in…..Put what in?
I can’t bear this secret anymore
It eats away at me each ticking of the clock
I should share our little…….
“Shhhhh! Don’t utter another word, I say”
Have you forgotten the pact we made
The sacrifice we made, that’s the bond that connects each one of us
The beautiful moments we spent together made us family
We are to protect ourselves like a mother hawk watches over her Eyass
But then there’s the secret! It makes everything ugly, O how it ruins it all
“Speak not in such manner least we be taken away by the gods”
This secret wasn’t by choice, instead it chose us
We led lives of good nature, yet our reward from earth
Are lives filled with indignation and bitterness
And you speak of the gods? They are not to be trusted
They look on us with contempt and utter disgust
That’s why we suffer in loneliness and pain
“Our paths have taken unfortunate turns”
This secret is what it is……A secret!
To be kept for it is an expensive treasure
One that costs both flesh and blood
We do not stand for a battle cry
For no one would understand our fate
Yet we have indulged in the dirty game of secrets
So we keep it and hope we get beautiful beds to lay on.
The well is our only hope
Who should we direct our rage to?
