Of white man’s bullets flying by
Nor shake their head, or breathe a sigh! So I ask, are we still slaves?When…
Once and again on running track
Bolt beat them all, a tall man black
And did you not all clap with glee
For all the watching world to see?
And…
Black Barack kid from Kenya’s hill
He rules sure at Capitol Hill;
Did not your wives and young’uns
Blow loud for him the victory Horns?
Say…
Did not black Ben with coallike skin
Make a miracle no eyes have seen?
Did Ben not share the Binder boys
And let them both to pick their toys!
Yes…
I’m sure you know Emeagwali
And sure you fear the black Ali.
What would you say of Luther King
Or Soyinka of whom we sing?
So…
Would Maya Angelou not weep
And Stevie Wonder purse his lips?
What would you say to Jesse Jack
And every great one with skin black?
Please tell me, are we still slaves?

Were we ever slaves? Most of were born free , yet… we stumble around as if chained. Good work.
you can say that again @nicolebassey . Do you know that I was battered on Facebook for this poem? I do not even have the right to write about it….that is real slavery.
Of course though I can’t admit it…
Its a shame then if that is the case @francis
Powerful poem. I guess I should go find the details of that incident. But I need no details to know that racism is a beast that must be constantly kiled to remain dead.
Please do oag @obiaguomba …Racism must be “constantly killed” hmmm…powerful line.
I agree @obiaguomba. Racism has to “remain dead”.
How to do that is now the problem @sontel
That you are even asking these question says what??
@kaycee I tire o. E pass my power no be small
Very good. I like the style too
Thank you @magic
Hmmm! @xikay. I’m really proud of this inspiring and thought-provoking piece. It’s message is provocative and humbling. We are no more slaves even though we behave sometimes as though we were. I especially admire the way you knit “Black Barrack kid from Kenya hills” into the lines. And the rhymes; aren’t they perfect?
You honor me @sontel. Well, as for the rhymes, you the reader and critic will tell me if they are perfect. I wrote it with anger, maybe that made it ‘quality’ as you suggest.
I, the reader and critic hereby declare these rhymes PERFECT.
Okay @sontel and I the writer do hereby accept this with a hurrah!
You were battered for this? Every Black should be proud of this.
of course @layrite, i was battered and banned from a few poetry platforms, but only where whites were the page admins. They said I was racist and invaded my Facebook inbox.
@xikay … maybe a sort of neo-slavery like neo-colonialism… I love your poem… a good work…
Thanks @innoalifa…i really do appreciate.
@xikay … you need not mention…
Our minds still keep us as slaves to the white. Several things and happenings around us is a testimony. Unless we change that, I’m sorry…
