Truly, Madly, Deeply

Truly,

A tin-god accustomed

to the brutish persuasions

of his whim and caprice

but unyielding

to the aspirations

of  others

journeys only closer

to the infamy of insurrection.

Madly,

He dances to the symphony

Of his messianic delusion

sycophancy becomes

the palm fronds

heralding his descent

into Golgotha.

Deeply,

He sinks into that abyss

that is home

to the lot of them

who share history’s bed

but fail to see

the thorns in her sheets.

(Inspired by the song “Truly, Madly, Deeply” by Savage Garden. For the Arab Spring and the Sub-Sahara African tropical storm, if ever it will come.)
