They toy with millions,
Loot in billions and scam in trillions.
What effrontery!
Prosecute them I say.
But me, poor me,
Pardon me,
I steal mere thousands.
The roads are bad, horrible death-traps.
The air no better, Planes like time bombs,
Their clocks already ticking
Prosecute them I say!
But me, humble Carpenter
What does it matter, that that chair made
Won’t last two semesters.
The budget and allowances,
So robust and padded
Allowance to breathe, allowance to blink
Persecute them I say
But me, studios student
My fees are barely inflated
What’s a hundred thousand more?
And did I mention? I’m Dad’s favourite son.
She makes so many mistakes!
If words were as bullets,
Carnage her specialty,
Persecute her I say!
But me, proud School Owner
I’m hiring today,
No, no tests.
Agree to the pay and by all means stay!
Elections are rigged.
Goodness gracious why?
Is power so corruptible?
Prosecute them I say!
And me, eager candidate
I paid to get into school,
And now, I must crane my neck
Exams are here.
The police are bribed,
What manner of man pays bribes?
What manner takes bribes?
Persecute them I say!
But me, dutiful Father,
Please accept this token,
My Son goes into service
And this State he must serve in

Eye on our Nation
Eye on me, on you
And on our every day.
The limelight is on us.
So true. iLike
Nice.!
Much appreciated. Thank you.
Nice…real nice.
No greater truth said in plainer words.
Well done!
Thanks very much.
This makes me remember 2 of my pieces on the same subject….well Done!
Thanks a lot.
Perfect piece. Enjoyed it. You can put the blame on me…
Thanks Lactoo.
What does it matter, that that chair [I] made
But me, studio[u]s student
Interesting and very much up to date… we are all tangled in the crimes of our land.
I love your style and message.
Thank you.
Some of the poems here don’t get the applause they deserve.
This one is exquisite, it should win something.
Respect.
Wow! From Kaycee that means a lot. I am both humbled and encouraged. Thank you.
Nice, you spoke the truth @deedee
Thanks Lancaster.
this is the sad story of Nigeria and it has come out from a concerned citizen – well done and may we continue to hope that Nigeria will rise from the grip of corruption.
Thank you, written by a concerned citizen and read and commented on by equally concerned citizens.
The all-pervasive nature of corruption captured beautifully here.
From the market woman who heaps curses on the gov’t yet has her Derica tin padded so much so that a quarter of the purchases made and pain-stakingly paid for never leaves her kitty.
And the people who would take to the street to “Save Nigeria” yet would call in favours to have their wards secure admission into the University without merit.
and the “Smart Alec” who would jump queue and complete his transaction with the bank cashier and think the rest of the people on the queue fool.
And worse still is that depraved sense of “smartness” associated with all these without any feeling of wrong-doing.
Phew! our value system is warped and yea we need to persecute them and have them rot in jail forever but who is to say that the successors will fare better?
But of course change is the better alternative we have, I guess.
Nice writ @deedee
So true, the list is endless. We all need to be held accountable at every level.
Yes, true talk. The failure is a collective failure. The culpability goes round. We will do ourselves good by approaching solutions with that understanding.
True. Thanks for reading and dropping a comment.
