Mo’Dele

Mo’Dele

Mo’dele came home like the prodigal child

Sores from all over the place on her body

Scars I didn’t dare to question their source
She came home and like the father in the story
I opened my doors and my heart to her again
Only I am not her father

I am the man who loves her like none other
I am the man in the shadows
I am the one poised to catch her when she falls
I am a miserable man
Mo’dele left again one morning
Like the restless falcon that has a home only in the next hunt
She left me a penciled note that said ‘thank you’
And a sweater to warm my nights
There was no need to search for my heart
It was long gone

I am a miserable man
Glad to wallow in my misery
Because within it lies hope
That someday she will be back
And maybe it will be to stay
Till then, Mo’dele,
Till, you come home

  1. i love the essence of the poem, very NICE. i enjoyed it a lot. glad to be the first here.

  2. Wow!…you managed to communicate the character’s pain and love in such a short poem..its hard to find a man who loves a woman on the path of destruction…sometimes,it’s love like this that will save her..great poem!

  3. very nice and sweet poem, and i really enjoyed it.
    well done.

  4. this poem was written with touche, crisp, concise and creative…KUDOS

  5. Sad and well appointed, I loved the simplicipy and pain in this.

  6. Sweet, sexy and simple. Think what he has for her isn’t love but something much more simpler but much better than love. Maybe a likeness that’s most natural. This is the kinda poems that really wow me. Very good one. Think, however, the guy’ll find someone else soon. He can’t wait forever.

  7. Brilliant piece Kiah! I enjoyed it, really, very unique.

  8. i agree with JAYWRITER…he better find someone else oh!!! hello people!!!

  9. let him keep waiting; if he gets one, he’ll never treat her right… if he doesn’t, he’ll probably die of a broken-heart…. we got them many around

  10. xikay put it aptly:crisp, concise, creative. this is neat. these are my best lines. is it some twisted attempt at humor she exhibits here or a pinch of sadism:
“She left me a penciled note that said ‘thank you’
And a sweater to warm my nights”.
    i mean,can a sweater hug?can a sweater talk? can a sweater do what Mo’Dele does for me?
@jaywriter, is there anything better than love? not the emotion or intense feelin of attraction that most of us mistake for love and is almost always obsessive like this dude here or Gboyega’s In Praise of Her.i think not.i think love is simple but we add our own individuality and everything goes haywire.

  11. @neo-lite, do u know how much reverence the guy will treat that sweater will baffle you…

  12. me love sweaters….what else could she have left behind? her lingerie, she might as well shoot the poor guy in the head…

    and my best lines are
    ‘Mo’dele left again one morning
Like the restless falcon that has a home only in the next hunt’

i think its pitiful, people like that will never know the security that home and love means…always in search of the next best thing….

Mucho Gracias for the lovely comments and healthy debate…

  13. @kiah, you are damn right, lingerie will be like over-killing it…
    as for best line,…
There was no need to search for my heart
    It was long gone
