YOU’RE GONE?
You woke me up by 3.00a.m.
To remind me of my date with Shechem,
Your voice was strong and bright,
But your eyes told me you didn’t sleep at night.
I looked upon your fragile body,
And then to your face that now seemed moody.
I held your hand and we said our prayers,
Or would we rather resort to soothsayers?
You told me to warm the baked beans-
A meal you’ve grown to like by any means,
Then you gave me a smile–that smile
But this time it had the taste of bile.
I gave you the first spoon and quickly you ate,
And I told you not to hurry that I wouldn’t be late.
Then I gave you the 2nd and the 3rd and the food spoon at where you lay,
As we usually did each day.
You are full of courage
And you are full of rage,
If only,if only,if only you could,
You would have done what you would.
With a smile you breathe your last!!
I jumped and shouted and held onto you fast.
And I spilled the last spoon of the food,
Your last meal before you were gone for good.
(In memory of my uncle,Hon.Celsuis)

Hey Gretty, beautiful poem.
You obviously loved him and am sure he knew that.
Though you can’t read this to him; he left knowing you loved him. That’s a whole lot.
Well done and may he RIP!
abby, thanks much,I did love him,so much,he was like my husband,ok,shouldn’t remember all that, but serzly howz the poem?didn’t mean to add that line oh,wanted to know if the poem was ok.
At first, I had a completely wrong idea about what the poem was about, until I got to the dedication at the bottom. Then I had to go and re-read… I guess I’m not really cut out for figuring out poems.
