(Written in the wake of the Haiti Earthquake)
Whimpering from dark and doomed underneath
Amidst callously cut debris and human remains we wait
After we wailed and lost our voice timbre
Nature frowned at us
With deep wrinkles on her forehead
Wrinkles so deep and heartless
Burying a million’s quarter
What a multitude to waste
From our already scarce ten million
We still wait; in hopeless hope
In heart burning pain
We cried till our eyes cried from the pains of crying
Crumbled walls and bricks
Of homicidal intents hug the inmates of this cruel prison-
The earthquake prison
A prison of sickening stench and ‘dark’ darkness
Love and affection are so far away
They dwell in the land of the living
Not here
Here, the best we get is hugs from dead fellows
And hopeless whispers from the dying
Who bade us perpetual goodbyes
Deep thanks to rescue teams and support agents
If you never make it to our cell far beneath
Still we appreciate
Questions need not be asked
We accept our ugly fate.

What a touching poem. It shows such identity with the Haiti experience. Well done.
It really mirrors what I saw in the pictures of the aftermath. Well done!
Sad poem. Has a tinge of hopelessness.

Quite sad. Good job Jaysplanet.
Seems the poem was written from the point of view of someone trapped under the wreckage. It that it? Good poem.
Thanks! Actually, I know someone who lost his parents and only sister. His case was the loss of both legs. I felt for him and tried to blend in his dad’s thought in the heat of the disaster. It was sad for me.
very very sad piece.
God help us all.
