Resilience

Resilience

He moved, leading the troll

They all depended on him

I did, still do

Are we on the right track?

They ask

Yes

But I see a mist

Do you have faith?

Do you trust?

Believe?

Are you strong?

We are there

Gradually

I can smell it in the air

I feel it

Vindication

The old man kept leading

Leading the purposeful

Because they believed and clung to it

Like bees to a honey comb

Why leave the door ajar

Opening it up for danger?

For uncertainty

It is unsecured against hurt and pain

You the owner

Have you not learnt from your lesson?

Why haven’t you?

Why did you not shut the door?

You have sent me down the same road

I have good news for you…

I, the controlled, now set free

Will not go down that road again

I have shut the door

I have locked out danger

Who keeps on knocking,

Hurt and pain who are lurking in the shadows

Trying to get in at any chance they get…

The fight is finished

I won

Never, no more.

  1. Thank goodness you won. Good poetry. Hope it’s the kinda victory me’s thinking about.

  2. hmmmmmmmm
i like the description and the victorious ending.
    nice piece.

  3. This poem fits a metaphor for the exodus of the isrealites and the no-looking-back admonition of the voice speaking in the poem.
And in the end, the whole battle is theirs as the threat (Egyptians) has been silenced

  4. Beautiful poetry, you wrote it well, i actually liked it.

  5. Thank you everyone!!!

  6. Spot on Afronuts; twas the same story it conjured in my mind.
    @2cute4u: particularly love these lines:

“Will not go down that road again
    I have shut the door
    I have locked out danger
    Who keeps on knocking,
Hurt and pain who are lurking in the shadows
Trying to get in at any chance they get…
    The fight is finished.”

They show the true spirit of resilience. Well done
