The Judging Criteria;
1. Judge’s personal opinion
2. Mastery of language, maturity of feeling, and clarity of thought.
3. The story has to be original, creative and entertaining
4. The writing style, the grammar, the word choice and story continuity.
5. Ability to appeal to a very broad spectrum of readers in a manner and style that can be easily understood.
1. Double Trouble – Result: 6
Beautiful story, but it is told hurriedly. It lacks the necessary suspense and plump it deserves. And the title is trite.
2. A Second Chance – Result: 4
Good effort, but it lacks direction. Characterization is weak; and the story manages not to be told, eventually.
3. The Northern Prince. – Result: 3
Too many information crashing in. I do not feel any character come alive. The story is weak, and there is really no focus.
4. Born to Die – Result: 10!
Excellent! I can feel her pain, her frustration. It brings to light the misery attached to this myth. This is how a story should be written. Big ups!
5. Reliving Christmas – Result: 9
I love this story. Well delivered. The characters grow on you and the writer tells a simple story without any ugly fat in sight.
6. A Nightmarish Dilemma – Result: 5
For a serious theme as this, the story is told quite flippantly! It is almost like a diary-like scribble. It gets no empathy from the reader, since the delivery is below expectation.
7. THE HUNTER – Result: 6
I like this. It starts well, and ends tragically, for the children, that is!
8. Story Of My Life – Result: 4
This is no way to tell a story, I’m sorry. I like the premise, and that is why you get this result, but the delivery is just not right. Pick up books by Jude Dibia, Buchi Emecheta and read Tropical Fish by Doreen Baingana, leave the Hints to rest. And the title, totally inapt.
9. New Dawn on the Twin egde – Result: 3
You love to play with words, but you do not successfully string the words well to make much sense. There is, after all, a huge difference between poetry and prose. I am yet to appreciate what you are trying to say with this story.
10. Monologue – Result: 2
This is a lazy work, and will not (even) find a space in a magazine as flimsy as Hearts.
11. Looking Out The Window – Result : 9
It is quite tedious for me, but it is good prose nonetheless. I appreciate his/her skill as a writer, and whether I find his/her style impressive is another matter. But for the love of literature, it is a good job!
12. Am I one of them? – Result: 4
Too many typos; it’s difficult to detach them from the prose. Take your time to tell your story.
13. Without Notice – Result: 4
It does not read fluently.
14. Sirens – Result: 8
It ends abruptly, yet the writer manages to tell a good story…
15. Durosinmi – Result: 10!!!
My God! This is beautiful! I love this! The writer is gifted with rare talent. I applaud his/her creativity. The magic of this story is in the delivery. Svelte prose delivered beautifully. This is a winner!

A lot of Hausa in it, which makes it interesting. It is very descriptive but it is a bit too long

Stats off well giving the year. However, too pretentious in my opinion.
